In an age of ever increasing globalization and intercultural exchange, the Department of European and Classical Languages and Cultures helps prepare Texas A&M University students for careers in education, international affairs, international business, foreign service, and a variety of other professions. We offer Majors (B.A.) in Classics, French, German, and Russian, and Minors in Classical Studies, French, German, Italian, and Russian.
Distinguished faculty are widely published internationally and are recognized around the world for their expertise in European and Classical languages, literatures, history, and film studies. The Department sponsors two distinguished journals: Helios (published by Texas Tech University Press) and the South Central Review (published by The Johns Hopkins University Press). It also hosts a Distinguished Lecture Series and co-hosts conferences dealing with contemporary European issues as well as the European tradition. Summer study programs coordinated by our faculty are offered annually in France, Germany (see 2011 summer details), and Russia. Department faculty also teach regularly at the University's Santa Chiara Center in Santa Chiara Italy.
